Shown in etching of Josiah Burchett. Coat of Arms for the Burchett (Byrchett) family used by George Vertue in his line engraving of Josiah Burchett, published in 1720 and now in the collection of the British National Portrait Gallery in London. Some researchers show additional Burchett family crest and coat of arms, but this particular coat of arms is proven by this contemporary record from the 1600's era. Josiah Burchett was the Secretary of the Admiralty of Great Britain and MP representing Sandwich, Kent, England. He was the father of George Ann Burchett, Clerk of the Admiralty and Elizabeth Burchett, wife of Charles Hardy the Elder, Vice Admiral, Royal Navy. He was the grandfather of Charles Hardy, Admiral of the Fleet, Royal Navy and Josiah Hardy, Governor of New Jersey.
