The 125ft tower is the highest in the county. The church was built mainly in the 15th century but the tower was still under construction in 1523. The parish of Probus is bordered on the north by the parishes of Ladock and St Stephen-in-Brannel. The village of Probus is just north of the highway that connects the towns of Truro and St. Austell.
